Leverage the power of Enterprise SOA with SAP NetWeaver to transform your IT Landscape
Most SAP customers don't realize that Enterprise SOA and SAP's Enterprise Services Architecture (ESA) are about far more than just the technologies inside of SAP NetWeaver. Getting the benefits of Enterprise SOA takes more than simply adopting SAP® xApps, using Web services interfaces, or upgrading to mySAP ERP and other Business Suite applications. To that end, authors Scott Campbell and Vamsi Mohun have written this practical guide so that you may fully understand and successfully adopt Enterprise SOA as a way to align your IT environment with business goals and processes, while gaining maximum benefit from SAP's new architecture.
Packed with invaluable advice on the new SAP architecture, this book serves as an authoritative guide to SAP's Enterprise SOA-based strategy. You'll get an in-depth look at the impact on the IT industry of SAP's move to Enterprise SOA and learn why moving to SAP NetWeaver and mySAP ERP is so significant. Plus, the authors equip you with a look inside the many capabilities of SAP NetWeaver and how they complement each other to enable Enterprise SOA support for processes across your entire IT landscape.
Organized into three parts, Mastering Enterprise SOA with SAP NetWeaver and mySAP ERP moves from theory to practice, and from IT capabilities to specific product sets and examples while covering such topics as:
- The structure and evolution of SOA technology and how SAP NetWeaver supports SOA
- The architecture-driven processes used for adopting Enterprise SOA, as well as the ideal practices for improving success—and avoiding the risks and pitfalls
- Different approaches for creating enterprise services from scratch or based upon existing assets
- Examples of where Enterprise SOA and SAP NetWeaver are being used by IT organizations and ISVs to transform their organizations
- A look at the new SAP Usage Types for organizing the NetWeaver platform
- An understanding of how to use technologies such as the SAP NetWeaver Portal, Exchange Infrastructure for Process Integration, the Composite Application Framework, Web Dynpro, SAP Analytics, and more

SAP's strategy decoded
This is a fascinating book that attempts to decode SAP's strategy and the reader will get the glimpse of impending consolidation and why many software firms such as i2, high jump, etc have put themselves up on sale. Most likely, days of best of breed software companies are over. It is now a platform war where platforms are being optimized. Barriers are being created to enable higher pricing and fewer IT engineering resources to do the work. Therefore, I believe that companies should evaluate the platform before listening to the consultants; professors; and best of breed companies trying to sell a solution etc.
Presents good overview on the eSOA strategy and plans of SAP with NetWeaver platform
This book gives the reader a good overview and insight on the SOA strategy and plans that SAP aims to achieve with NetWeaver. Also discusses side effects as how SAP involves ISVs, IS and in general the SAP community. Although already somewhat outdated, it still helds valuable information on the thoughts behind NetWeaver as a SOA (or rather, enterprise SOA) platform.
